A golf outing success, because of volunteers
Latest News
This past Tuesday the Spanish Community Center held their 3rd annual Golf Outing. This is a very large fundraiser for the center, and also brings publicity to the community center. We had many local politicians, businesses, and even local minor league team the Joliet Slammers came to golf. Each hole had a different theme or event. Some holes had raffles, games, and I was able to have a Uniting America hole. At my hole I had a volunteer, Damaris Hernandez, from a local club called Latinos Unidos who is also an official volunteer for Uniting America, be the representative for the hole. At the hole she gave out Uniting America info, and also had volunteer sign up sheets. For every person that visited her, she would ask them about times they volunteered and if they could name 3 things they have volunteered for and she would give them a UA bracelet. Later that day it was great to see so many people with the Uniting America bracelets on clearly representing volunteerism.
Damaris, along with 17 other volunteers made my day much easier. I had volunteers at each golf hole. They were there to help out and do the activities for the golfers. The group of girls I had were friends and girls from Joliet who I recruited for the event. Without the volunteers I would have gone crazy!! Our event ran smooth, and the volunteers were able to learn more about the Spanish Center and Uniting America. Our entire event was ran by the volunteers that day, each person spent 8hrs of their day volunteering for us. Many had sunburn, and were very tired from being outside and running around, but at the end of the day everyone was still smiling and content with their day of volunteering.
