
Rep. Eddie Acevedo congratulates Hermes (our Citizenship Day Contest winner) and gives him his award from Chicago Public Schools Service Learning Initiative, $500 scholarship.
The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) held several citizenship workshops as part of the Ya Es Hora ¡Ciudadania! campaign and in celebration of the National Citizenship Day. The national effort to reach 8.25 million legal permanent residents still eligible to naturalize, includes 3.8 million eligible Latinos.
In addition, ICIRR unveiled artwork by Hermes Dervishi – whose parents recently applied for citizenship. He won the art contest organized by ICIRR in partnership with the Chicago Public School Learning Initiative. Hermes is a high school student Roosevelt High School and he submitted his painting to the contest which purpose is to engage children in Illinois and their parents on the process and benefits of becoming a U.S. citizen
