My host organization, the Niles Township Schools’ ELL Parent Center, is a proud partner with Coming Together in Skokie (CTIS). This year we are celebrating Greek culture. In years past they have celebrated Indian, Filipino and Assyrian communities.

Only a few days left before my first community unity event as an AmeriCorps Fellow! In typical “me” fashion, I am completely overwhelmed and putting entirely too much pressure on myself to pull off an amazing, incredible, wonderful, spectacular, over the top event. I’m in the storm now, but don’t worry, beauty always seems to come from chaos, so here we go!

The highlight of this week was my participation in an N-400, Application for Naturalization, Citizenship Training! I arrived at Arab American Family Services Tuesday evening to see two of my volunteers present for the event, Elmo Gonzalez and Stan Wiaduck. The fact that I was in the same situation as my volunteers was intensely exciting for me.

I want to take this time to recognize four volunteers that have gone above and beyond their duties, and I am excited that I have them on my team here in Waukegan. Lets start with Anne Reynolds. I had the opportunity to meet Anne even before I took the job as Uniting America AmeriCorps fellow.
