Organizing

Community organizing is at the heart of ICIRR’s work and mission.  In the democratic spirit, we are an organization of immigrants, by immigrants, and for immigrants.  Our issue and policy platforms are the product of hundreds of local meetings and trainings that happen across the state, wherever immigrants gather – from suburban Mosques, to labor union meetings, to Korean social service agencies to Catholic parishes in Polish and Mexican communities.  Below is a sample of the campaigns our membership has decided to work on.  We hope you will join us in this work of organizing our communities for real change.  We invite your religious institution, community organization, labor union, chamber of commerce or ethnic association to become a member of our diverse and powerful coalition.  We strongly encourage you to reach out to our Organizing Staff with any questions you may have – contact us to link you up to the appropriate local organizer.

Since the launch event in 2010, the Illinois Business Immigration Coalition (a project of ICIRR) has organized meetings with legislators, spoken out about E-Verify, and participated in a wide range of ICIRR campaigns and efforts.  If your business would like to be a part of the IBIC, please contact Stephen Smith at ssmith@icirr.org.
