I just want to share some amazing news, my host organization, Southwest Suburban Immigrant Project, is going to participate with one of our partners Literacy of Dupage. They are going to have their annual Human Race which is an amazing cause to help all students that are not sure of themselves and shy away of society because they don’t know the English Language. This Race will help people like Jim, a basic literacy student who joined Literacy of DuPage. He is one of thousands of people that do not speak English but wishes to learn. He has been learning a lot and he has improved so much to the point that he has started reading books to his children and is communicating better with his friends and coworkers

It is stories like Jim’s that reassure me about the importance of having organizations that give back to the community, volunteers that donate their time to make sure that we are uniting our communities without discrimination, and becoming more welcoming to our neighbors. I am very proud of the work that SSIP has been doing with the partnership that we have been building in our community; we are building a stronger base and cannot wait to keep growing.
