Community Dialogues Strengthen Communities

This past weekend I had the opportunity to take part in a very unique opportunity in Waukegan. I went to a community dialog that took place at First Baptist Church. They started these dialogs in response to a homicide that happened down the street from the Church.

I just want to share with all the people that read our blogs that I just recently got an e-mail from Thalha, he is a student from Benedictine University that is going to be helping Uzzair pass his citizenship test. Since he has been a permanent resident for 20 years, the biggest challenge he is going to face is that he does not know how to read or write.

On April 7th one of the Uniting America fellows and my coworker, Sara, is hosting a community event. She will be showing the documentary, The Interrupters, at a high school in Palos Park. Following the event one the Violence Interrupters from the documentary, Eddie Bocanegra, will be speaking along with Bilaal Evans from the Inner-City Muslim Action Network.
