Uniting Families

Last weekend HIAS Chicago held their monthly Citizenship Workshop at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Schaumburg, Illinois. Although we anticipated a fairly large crowd, we were not expecting over 50 applicants! The atmosphere was great. People came in and were greeted by one of HIAS’ new volunteers, Julian.

An Uplifting Experience in Alabama

I want to share my great experience in Alabama. I was so moved to see a lot of people united from different races, states and countries to commemorate this great march that happened so many years ago. I loved that I got to meet people like Mauricio, who is a community organizer in Alabama. He was so happy to see us marching especially because we came from so far away.

Inspiring Youth in Alabama

Alabama has become one of the most hostile states for immigrants in the United States, so what better place to strive toward Uniting America.  After a long night on a coach bus, 46 participants stepped onto the highway in Alabama to join the commemorative march from Selma to Montgomery.  It was such an empowering feeling to be a part of this diverse group.
