This past Tuesday was the the fourth annual Illinois Muslim Action Day. CIOGC organizes IMAD as a way of bringing the Chicagoland area Muslims and supporters together to advocate for issues impacting the Muslim community. Mosques, schools, and community centers send buses of riders to Springfield for the event, allowing participants of all ages to experience the state capitol. IMAD has truly become a powerful display of the solidarity and diversity of the Illinois Muslim community.

Megan and I headed down to Springfield to show Uniting America's support for IMAD. To highlight the importance of service to Uniting America and the Muslim community in general, we organized a food drive. We asked bus riders to bring along one food item to be donated to the Central Illinois Food Bank. After collecting all of the items, we dropped them off at the bank, where we, alongside Scott McFarland, Acting Executive Director of the Serve Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service, were given a tour of the facilities by Kristy Gilmore, the Manager of Food and Agency Resources. Kristy was appreciative of the contribution we made, and is looking forward to the food drive becoming a regular part of IMAD!
